In addition to the above journals, there are many which publish papers on the history of English. These journals are often associated with a certain linguistic organisation or society and favour a certain approach in their publications. For instance, the American Dialect Society (1889- ) is a learner society which publishes the journal American Speech (Duke University Press, 1925- ), which showcases work on dialects and dialectology.

There are also journals which have a largely present-day orientation but which nonetheless strive to apply the principles they represent to the history of languages or varieties. This is the case, for instance, with such journals as Language Variation and Change or English World Wide.

Note that for many journals there is also an accompanying series of book publications.
